About the Author

Heather Dodge Martin writes historical fiction novels and short speculative fiction.

She is inspired by the fascinating historical context of the 1970s, the intricate connections of the natural world, and re-imagined snippets of family history.

She enjoys gardening, hiking, crafting with natural materials, and other outdoorsy, hippie-ish pursuits, and is a voracious reader of both fiction and non-fiction. Nurturing deeply nerdy passions for history and archaeology, she will visit any museum, any day. She lives in rural Northern California with her family, three chickens, and their feline overlords.

She belongs to the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, The Association of Writers and Writing Programs, and the California Writers Club. Always looking to learn, she is a regular participant in writing groups, courses, conferences, and retreats, in order to develop her understanding of both the craft and the business of writing (and to hang out with bookish people).

A former elementary school teacher and educational researcher, she holds a BA from Michigan State University (Go Green!), and a Masters and PhD in Education from the University of California at Davis (Go Aggies!). In addition to her academic publications, her nonfiction for the general reader has appeared in Teaching Children Mathematics and Childhood: Growing up in Sacramento magazines (as Heather A. Martin).
